The government in 2022 through the Ministry of Finance, in 2022 created the Insurance Appeals Tribunal, an appellate body that addresses grievances in the insurance industry.

The body has the mandate to review decisions made by the Complaints Bureau of the Insurance Regulatory Authority.

He also advised the tribunal members to get in touch with local leaders who usually have free airtime on radio stations to create more awareness about their mandate.

In bid to equip them with judgement writing skills, he promised to liaise with the Judicial Training Institute(JTI) for subsidized training.

The PJ promised to be sending back cases related to insurance in case they come to court without going through the tribunal process which will reduce case back login courts.

The Chairperson of the tribunal, Ms Ritah Namakiika Nangono noted that since the inauguration of the Tribunal in 2022, six appeals have been filed and one referred to the High Court. She emphasized the need for more awareness of the roles of the Tribunal since the insurance industry plays a key role in the economic development of the country.

She appreciated fact that the Judiciary has adopted the Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) Mechanisms, and in this, she requested that the Judiciary allocates mediators to the tribunal.

Present were members; Mr George Steven Okotha, Mrs Solome Mayanja Luwaga, Dr John Bbale Mayanja and Mr Isaac Mpanga, who is also the Registrar of the tribunal.
